Okpotu gets call up to CHAN Eagles, as six CHAN Eagles dropped

In preparation for the upcoming WAFU Tourney, Six players have been dropped from the CHAN Eagles squad that prosecuted th CHAN qualifiers against Benin Republic, while seven new players received call ups.
Lobi Stars forward Anthony Okpotu, who has scored 17 goals in the league this season, and Katsina United star midfielder Destiny Ashadi are some of the new players.
Coach Salisu Yusuf will soon make his 21- man squad for the WAFU Cup official.
The  WAFU Cup which is a West Africa sub-regional competition, started in 1982 and was played till 1987. The competition could not continue further due to lack of sponsors despite making a return in 2002.
However, a 12-year deal sponsorship deal worth $24million by American company Fox Networks Group came under the wire to revive the WAFU Cup once again.

The competition will take place from September 9 -24, 2017 in two Ghanaian cities from September 9, while Nigeria will tackle Sierra Leone in a knockout format to determine the team who qualifies for the group stage.
